heng44 | A portrait of cosmonaut Elena Serova (below right) was released this week, as she is a crewmember of the upcoming Soyuz TMA-14 launch. It is the same portrait that was released earlier this year (left) as she was backup for Soyuz TMA-12. Only a new emblem was photoshopped into the new photo. That is not a first and has also been done with portraits of NASA astronauts. However, I noticed that somebody also found it necessary to give Serova a digital facelift.

hoorenz | Nice catch Ed! And funny. |
Robert Pearlman | Is this unique to Serova's portrait or has this kind of touch-up been done before? |
Cozmosis22 | Sheesh, everyone's gone Hollywood! |
Hart Sastrowardoyo | I don't have the program, but will someone please Photoshop Steven Spielberg in the foreground? You know which pose I'm talking about, right? |
sts205cdr | In the old days, they used to Photoshop cosmonauts OUT of the photo. |
MrSpace86 | I wonder if they do this to the men too? |
Mike Dixon | If you take a close look at many of the recent WSS portraits, you'll notice all the suit neck rings have been photoshopped. |

I have seen early Scott Carpenter portraits where they masked the 'dent' in his forehead that was caused by (I believe) a motorcycle accident. |
moorouge | You're quite correct Ed. Carpenter's astronaut career was effectively ended by a motorcycle accident in Bermuda. |
heng44 | Then it must have been some earlier accident. I'll have to look that up in his book. The photos I was talking about were from early in his career, so the accident must have been before that. |
LM-12 | Another altered photo is AS15-85-11471 taken on the lunar surface. The discarded white object seen under the rover in the ALSJ image is not there in the JSC image. |
